We are living through a truly challenging, yet transformational, time. From COVID-19 to Black Lives Matter and now the crisis in Beirut, there is much uncertainty and darkness shrouding our world. Children are deeply intuitive and sensitive to the emotions of others. As a result, they are often the first to pick-up on collective anxiety and fear. This is why I believe we need to educate children on the beauty of everyday life – building healthy, resilient minds from day one.
CONSCIOUS EDUCATION
A conscious education comes from talking and being open to the experiences of others. Often we say children are too young to understand concepts of emotions, trauma or dis-ease. I believe this is untrue – as children are always the first to detect and absorb the stresses of their surrounds.
Each year, we see a huge increase in children suffering from mental health issues. New studies have shown that one in seven are experiencing mental health disturbances. Incorporating a mindfulness tool, such as SunChild affirmation cards, is so important for building a strong mind as a strong mind leads to positive wellbeing and overall health, mentally, physically and spiritually.
THE POWER OF POSITIVE THINKING
The SunChild deck was specifically designed to encourage positive thinking and self-esteem. I’ve included statements such as “I am Love”, “I Am Perfect as I Am” and “I am Whole”, to remind little ones of their inherent goodness, educating them on the power of a calm and present mind.
I believe The SunChild effect goes beyond words. By repeating positive statements, children are taught a strong foundation and sense of self, so they can embody the positive – and not the negative – elements of life. These cards put children’s minds at ease, reminding them that all will be okay – they are not only supported by their loves ones, but by themselves and the universe, too.
START A CONVERSATION
I speak with parents every day who are using our affirmation cards to start conscious conversations with their children. Our cards educate little ones – comforting them in knowing that all feelings are okay and valid, allowing a child to feel that feeling, not push it down as so many do in adulthood. Take sadness for example – I love to explain that frustrated tears are only water and flowers cannot grow without water. Flipping the traditional script allows for education and empowerment for our little ones, fostering self-regulation of emotions and a healthy sense of self.
SOME FRIENDS OF SUNCHILD INCLUDE:
“Each day, my 3 year old, Ava, pulls a card over her breakfast. Yesterday she pulled “I am Kind” and she said, “I am going to teach you to be Kind”. This then opened a conversation about kindness and all the ways to be kind in this world” – Ali
“My son, Bear, asked if we could pull out affirmation cards every day, which lead to a conversation about what affirmations are and how they can help us get through our day. So special.” – Nikki
SunChild affirmation cards are always here to lend a helping hand. I hope this brings some clarity, calm and conscious living to your everyday.
